The blood stopped flowing, my heart dropped to my knees
I stepped over my sister who was looking up at me
A look that couldn't be said with all my longwinded words
There's our future starving on the streets
Some got providence to wish (reach) to the stars
Too many got nothing and have just wished (reached) too far
You get too close to put rhetoric to a face
Too hung up on screams falling all over the place
And so many quiet, bent......... and cold
You can't walk all these angels, you can't walk them home
No need to get cleaned up they're just gonna wash you away
Ain't no compassion, turn red blood to blue
I don't need to tell my sister what we know is our own truth
The voters build prisons for her children too

— I step over and ignore too many 'homeless' that I realize are actually my blood, neighbors, brothers and sisters. The liberals and right wingers have effectively made all of us think only now of it as a 'problem' and not what should be a source of compassionate rage. Our black 'liberal' mayor of SF, Willie Brown, made this comment when welfare recipients made to work what are usually union jobs at less than minumum wage and so decided to unionize for their rights: "They can't be in a union - they don't work!" Such is the respect... such is the solution: no money for schools, plenty for prisons, social benefits cut... but millions more each year for bombing civilians all over the world... The cynicism and arrogant disregard that the freeest, richest elite in the world exhibits makes me think that nothing short of social revolution will give us a future.
